Prof. Vincent Jarlier is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Bacteriology-Hygiene at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital and School of Medicine, Paris, France. He is a bacteriologist responsible for the survey of multidrug resistant bacteria in French hospitals (network BMR-RAISIN).
Prof. Vincent Jarlier has been the Director of the French National Reference Center for Mycobacteria and Drug Resistance to Antimycobacterial Agents since 1994 and a member of Technical Group for Drug Susceptibility Testing Methods and Breakpoints of French Society of Microbiology since 1995. He has served as the Chairman of European Antimicrobial Resistance Survey System (EARS-net) since 2011. Besides, Prof. Vincent Jarlier was the President of the French National Committee for Nosocomial Infections of Ministry of Health in 1996 and Vice-President from 1997 to 2004.
His main research areas include mechanisms of resistance to B-lactams (ESBL, carbapemenases) and fluoroquinolones in enterobacteria and pseudomonas, epidemiology and control of spread of multi-resistant bacteria (MRSA, VRE, CPE...), methodology and organization of bacterial resistance at national and European level, Experimental chemotherapy of mycobacterial infections (TB, leprosy, Buruli ulcer, other species), biochemical study of mycobacterial cell wall (permeability towards antibiotics, discovery of porins), mechanisms of acquired resistance in mycobacteria, biochemistry of antibiotic targets in mycobacteria (DNA gyrase, catalase-peroxydase, pyrazinamidase...), discovery of new anti-tuberculous agents (bedaquiline), and prevalence, characteristics and risk factors of resistant tuberculosis. He has an H-index of 49 and has above 275 references in PubMed and 336 references in Web of Science.
