Dr. Hiroshi Watanabe is Vice-president of Kurume University Hospital, Director of Division of Infection Control and Prevention, Kurume University Hospital and Professor and Chairman of Department of Infection Control and Prevention, Kurume University School of Medicine, Japan.

In 2003, Dr. Hiroshi Watanabe served as a short-term consultant in SARS Infection Control Team of WPRO in China. He had collaboration with University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka funded by Grant-in-Aid for Special Purposes, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology of Japan. Dr. Watanabe has collaborated with Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University of China since 2007 and has registered with WHO as GOARN partner.

Since 1988, Dr. Watanabe has published over 100 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests range from infectious diseases, infection control and travel medicine.
